Oak Island is easily one of my favorite coastal spots anywhere. Because the shoreline faces south, the sunsets fall off to the right when you’re looking out at the ocean—and they’re nothing short of incredible. Beyond the views, there’s a genuine, laid-back charm here that’s hard to find. The local ice cream shops, small restaurants, and familiar faces give the island a warm, hometown atmosphere. Many of the weddings and family sessions I photograph are for people who have been visiting Oak Island for generations, which adds a deeper meaning to every shoot. It’s not just a destination—it’s part of their story. For weddings, it’s especially ideal. Venues like 801 Ocean offer beautiful oceanfront reception spaces, allowing couples to say their vows right on the beach and celebrate just steps from the water.
